High Performance Electrolyte for Iron-Ion batteries

Aqueous rechargeable batteries have received widespread attention due to their excellent power density, simple manufacturing process, and inexpensive electrolyte. Iron-ion are expected meet the goals of high safety, low cost, non-toxicity pursued in field batteries. However, passivation, parasitic hydrogen evolution reaction (HER), electroplating efficiency (50%-70%) limit improvement electrochemical performance, which greatly restricts practical application. In this study, a high-performance electrolyte for iron-ion was prepared, effect zinc chloride (ZnCl2) additives on inhibiting HER coulomb ferrous (FeCl2) explored. Additionally, addition complexing agents electrodes studied. It’s demonstrated that electrode can still obtain nearly 100% after 20 hours cycling containing ZnCl2 additive FeCl2, while FeCl2 electrolyte, its is only 65%.
